Poo Treatment, It’s Works Against Killer Bug
It works, it’s a cure, that’s all that matters right? Scientists have found a cure for the deadly Clostridium difficile bug. Fantastic! But, there’s a catch:
The treatment involves human faeces. If it was only that… it gets worse. Donor stool is administered via a tube through the nose into the patients stomach. The thought of having poo shoves down through my nose into my stomach would definitely gross me out… but hey it works.
Clostridium difficile causes severe and potentially fatal infectious diarrhea.
Clostridium difficile is a particular problem among patients who have been prescribed strong antibiotics as they also wipe out the so-called ‘friendly’ disease-fighting bacteria in the intestine. Faecal ‘transplants’, as they are known, are believed to restore the bacteria to levels at which they help the recovery process.
So that’s why you need the “shit”. Even though it may not be pleasant to say the least, this treatment has the potential to save the lives of infected patients.
