Iraqi Girl Murdered By Father In "Honour Killing"
I hate to read about murders like these cause we all know, this probably happens every day and this is just one case that is actually being reported.
A 17 year old girl was butchered by her father in Basra in the name of so called “family honour”. She only fell in love with a British soldier. Apparently there never was any physical contact, which makes the this even more brutal. She basically got murdered for speaking to a foreigner.
Even though he was arrested, the Iraqi police didn’t take any action. So I guess it’s fair to say that this is being considered “Ok”. What else is new…
Whatever your religion or beliefs, something as barbaric as killing your own daughter shouldn’t be happening anywhere in the world.
Here are a couple ideas:
1. Why don’t we start economically boycotting countries that continue to treat their women like this and the companies that do business with them? We could do for women what the boycott of South Africa did for blacks when they were living under apartheid.
2. Why don’t we write to our representatives and leaders and demand that they withhold some meaningful portion of our aid to these countries unless and until they materially, measurably, sustainably improve their human rights track records?
