"100$ Laptop" To Get Windows XP
The $100 laptop, which is actually about $500, will be having Windows loaded. All well and good, but is it really worth it?
I’ve said it before, if you want a basic, cheap and reliable tiny laptop, you’re best off with the Asus EEE.
Anyway, it looks like Microsoft joined forces with the OLPC developers and are making Windows XP available on the machines. According to the BBC News:
The move was prompted by countries which demanded the operating system before placing an order.
The founder of One Laptop Per Child (OLPC), which developed the machines, denied the move was a “desperate new measure” to secure more orders.
Well it certainly gets the sale up.
Education is one thing, but there’s something very odd about third world countries buying a massive amount of laptops.
