Autumn has arrived and is slowly but surely slipping into winter. It’s the time of the year when leaves fall off trees, pumpkins are tortured and flu jabs hit the surgeries.
Last one unfortunately doesn’t protect you from colds, nagging coughs and runny noses. The bugs are out and all about, a handshake can be enough, or maybe you touched that door handle in the public toilet. It doesn’t matter how you catch it, once you got it, the uncomfortness can be tremendous.
A simple cold is basically nothing to worry about and you don’t need to stuff yourself with antibiotics or painkillers. There’s countless natural remedies that will just do the trick and get your body back up and running healthy.
Here are a few good common remedies, all completely natural:
- Echinacea – often referred to as a blood purifier, this herb is used to reduce symptoms and durance of a common cold. Very popular in Germany and available in various forms/products in pretty much any pharmacy. It is recommended to take it every 2 to 3 hours with a total daily dose of 3 or more grams at first sign of a cold.
- Vitamin C – probably the best known Vitamin for a reason: It was found to slightly reduce the duration of colds in adults and children if taken as a preventative measure. However, it doesn’t seem very effective if the cold has already appeared.
- Peppermint – an excellent choice if you suffer from bronchitis or sinus infections. Generally a good remedy for colds, it can also act as a mild painkiller.
- Chicken Soup
